Storytelling to get Hired!

While You may not want to become a professional storyteller, trust me, the best storyteller interviewed gets the job every day of the week.

There is a load of weight on anyone hiring. Will this person fit in? That is the biggest concern of all. Lots of people are horses’ tails; not being one of them gives you the jump on getting hired! Being willing and able is fantastic. To convey that in a compelling way is better.

Your goal is to be like the person you are talking to. Body language is one way to lower the hiring manager's anxiety. I can teach you all of that. When the hiring manager feels good being with you, half the battle is won.

Spouting out a bunch of figures may illustrate your worth but it won't get you hired. Logic tells, but emotion sells. So how on earth does one do a reasonable, factual, compelling sales job when the product is you? Well the shortest distance between two people IS a story.

Descriptions that paint a positive picture are the keys to paradise. What makes you unique might have zero to do with the job. Are you someone who overcame adversity, if you are still breathing you have overcome something. Are you the one who found the problem and fixed it before anyone got in a jam...no matter how small, YOU did it. Of course you can't sell yourself as a brain surgeon if you are a bartender, but still there is a bright shiny something inside you that makes you important. We just have to dig to find your story, and once we find it, we craft it, and you can tell it with ease, all short and compelling, since it is A: true and B: You lived it.

FEAR is False Evidence Appearing Real. What I can do is lower your FEAR. Remember, a setback is truly a set up for a comeback. Let me coach you, I am a master at finding the story. I'll listen to whatever you say, ask you some questions, and help you find that nugget that makes them happy You applied.

 Envision with me. You have just come out of that interview. As the door closes, you overhear the person you just met say, "Whew... Thank goodness we finally found the one. Let's get that offer together!" You walk on, face the world... and say, "YES!"
